4:30am.
Every morning.
The dogs are already awake.
By the time we reach them, they're waiting at the gate.
Every single morning.
We open it. And they go.
Big fenced area. Running. Chasing each other. Completely free.
And we stand there watching.
Because this — watching a British Bulldog run without struggling, breathe without fighting —
This is what we're here for.
This is the whole point.
We're based in Brisbane. We've been doing this since 2020.
But we didn't start out as breeders.
We started out as two people who loved a dog.
Nick opened Brisbane's first ever R&B and Hip Hop nightclub at 21.
He's spent his whole life building things that didn't exist before.
Sheila was a Registered Nurse. Clinical Nurse by her second year. Acting after-hours nurse management before she was 25.
She spent her career watching people at their most vulnerable and making sure they got through.
Between us, we've run nightclubs, restaurants and clinical wards.
Our last restaurant was acknowledged by the Courier Mail as one of the best in the state.
We've never done anything halfway.
We weren't about to start with something that matters this much.
When we built the whelping wing, Sheila took over.
She didn't need a brief. She didn't need a consultant.
She thought about every patient she'd ever sat with through a hard night.
And she built what she knew they deserved.
Three rooms. Incubators. Nebulisers. Oxygenators.
IVs. IV fluids. Tube feeding. Orthopaedic beds for the girls.
Temperature controlled. Relaxation music. TVs.
Booties at the door. Hand sanitiser before you touch anything.
Diluted chlorhexidine before you touch a teat. F10 throughout.
She'd spent years doing this for people.
She wasn't going to do any less for them.
We make their treats ourselves.
Dehydrated beef liver. Chicken. Red apple. Sweet potato.
Every ingredient cleared against every dog.
Because if one of ours is allergic to something, we're not going to be the reason they suffer.
Royal Canin as their base. Prime 100 rolls, Greek yoghurt, sardines, raw eggs as toppers.
Multivitamins every day. Pre and post probiotics.
Own hydrobath. Oatmeal shampoo.
Every morning, every dog gets checked.
Lumps. Bumps. Scratches. Anything that wasn't there yesterday.
Because they can't tell us when something's wrong.
So we don't wait to be told.
It sounds like a lot.
For us it's just a Tuesday.
The hardest thing we do is say goodbye.
Our dogs are social. They need people. They need space. They need a couch and a family and a real life.
So we found them that.
Where we can, our dogs live in guardian homes.
We visit the house. We get to know the family. We educate them on routine, food, behaviour — everything they need.
We build real relationships with them.
Because we have something in common.
We all want to see this breed healthier. And we all want to see it survive.
They're not just guardian families.
They're part of the Hollywood Bulldogs AUS family.
Every dog gets DNA tested. Not just ADAMTS3 — all panels.
We don't breed blind. We never have.
We're MDBA registered (#18715).
We started all of this in 2020.
Not because we planned to.
Because something happened that we couldn't walk away from.
